Ice Skating Lessons

Ages 3 – 18
Location:  Morrison Arena

The Orono Community Education ice skating program is designed for all ages, and lessons follow the curriculum designed by Learn to Skate USA to provide a simple but progressive method of group ice skating instruction. The ice skating program includes preschool level skating skills, basic figure skating, hockey skills, and private lessons.

Youth lessons

  • Snowplow Sam classes are recommended for ages 3 1/2 – 5.
  • The Beginners class is for students who need to learn the Snowplow Sam skills, but are age 6 or older.
  • The Basic classes are recommended for ages 6 and up.
  • Hockey Skating Skills camp is for Squirt and Advanced Mite Level.

Semi-Private Lessons

Either hockey or figure skating. Semi-private lessons have a maximum of 3 students.

Each lesson includes 30 minutes of instruction and 30 minutes of free practice time either prior to or after your lesson. This program is taught by trained skating instructors.

What to wear

  • Children should dress warmly (jackets, hats, mittens, etc.) because the arena is cold.
  • Helmets are REQUIRED for Snowplow Sam skaters and highly recommended for all other skaters.
  • Wear either leather hockey or figure skates, but please no double bladed skates.

Parents are not allowed on the ice without skates.  If you are wearing skates, you may join your child in the practice area, but not in the lesson area.  No parents or kids are allowed on the ice without skates.
