Orono School’s participated in the ME to WE initiative, WE Scare Hunger Food Drive for the 7th year. From October 28 – November 8, students in grades K-12 brought in non-perishable food and hygiene items to school that were donated to the Maple Plain Food Shelf and the Spartan Basic Needs Closet. Members of the High School club, Youth in Action, as well as Middle School’s Future Leaders in Training (FLIT) students organized the drive with support from Orono Community Education. In addition, we partnered with local businesses to collect donations from their customers. Those businesses included: Carlson Wellness Clinic in Maple Plain, the ChiroCenter in Long Lake, Harvest Moon and Orono Station.
Several Youth in Action students helped pack up the over 1,000 pounds of food and hygiene items to be brought to the Maple Plain Food Shelf.
