OHS yearbook, paper garner many awards

The Orono High School yearbook and newspaper staffs took home a number of honors from the Minnesota High School Press Association’s fall convention. It was held October 10 at the University of Minnesota.

The Spartan Annual (yearbook) was recognized for:

  • Student life photo, first place
  • Best in show, second place
  • Theme concept, second place
  • Yearbook spread, second and fifth places

The yearbook also received the All-State Gold Award from the Journalism Educators of Minnesota (JEM).

The Spartan Speaks (newspaper) was recognized for:

  • Broadcast feature story, first and second places
  • Sports photos, fourth and fifth places
  • Sports story, fifth place
  • Best in show, seventh place

The newspaper also received the All-State Silver Award from JEM.

Advisors are OHS English teachers Sarah Cole (yearbook) and Kyle Ann Herring (newspaper).
