Meet Mr. Benson

In my career, I’m most proud of my work with the Orono Middle School staff to design and schedule the new middle school, which employs the “house” concept. I’m also the proud father of two Orono graduates.

My current passions are camping and fishing the BWCA. I like to ‘rough it’ while camping which means tents, sleeping bags and cooking over fires! I also enjoy watching sports (especially baseball),  reading about Civil War personalities, and laughing as much as I can. My favorite quote is: “A student ought to be able to look around and find a teacher in his or her corner.

Meet Ms. Boyd

Growing up in Minneapolis with summers spent at our Green Lake cabin gave me a genuine appreciation for all things we enjoy as Minnesotans. And, with great teachers serving as great role models along the way, I always knew that I’d like to teach someday.

As an administrator, I’ve had the opportunity to work in several outstanding districts here in Minnesota, and also in the state of Virginia where I was the principal of a large high school ranked as one of the top 100 in the nation. While there, I was invited to participate in the Secretary of Education’s forum for national high school reform initiatives. It was a tremendous experience, and I learned a lot.

A favorite quote that became a motto for many of our OHS student leaders is from Margaret Meade:
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has”.
