Six students serving on the Orono High School Student Senate attended the national convention of the National Association of Student Councils June 23-28 at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, New Hampshire. The delegation was led by Andy Baran, who will be a senior this year and is a member of the executive committee of the Minnesota Association of Honor Societies (MAHS), and OHS teacher Doug Erickson. Erickson also serves as coordinator of student activities for MAHS and the Minnesota Association of Student Councils.

Also representing OHS were Jordan Case, Emmett Halloran, Emma Kosek, Mollie McGrann and Ellie Melander. In all, 49 students and eight advisers from Minnesota attended.

The theme of the convention was “Out of this World Leadership” in recognition of Pinkerton graduate Alan Shepard, who was the first American in space. Students heard speakers, attended leadership workshops and met with other students from across the United States. They also had the opportunity to tour Boston and spend a day at Hampton Beach.
