Author Abby Fabiaschi visited with Orono Middle School sixth-graders March 6 about writing her first book, “I Liked My Life:  A Novel,” which was published in January.

Fabiaschi, who attended Orono Schools through her junior year, lives by the motto “It’s not rejection, it’s feedback.” Those were the words she told herself after submitting the original manuscript and being dumped by her literary agent. Using this feedback, and the feedback from subsequent rejections, she revised the manuscript. That ultimately led to a bidding war between major publishing houses. Published by St. Martin’s Press, the novel has received rave reviews.

Fabiaschi also reconnected with some of her former teachers and the faculty book club prior to the start of school that day.

Fabiaschi is donating 20 percent of the proceeds from sales of her book to support women and children’s charities around the globe.
