OHS students outscore global counterparts

AA_globallearningnetwork_logo_3inch_300dpi_rgbOrono is not satisfied to be among the best in Minnesota or the United States. By participating in the Global Learning Network, the district is able to compare the performance of Orono High School 15-year-olds to those around the world.

The most recent international PISA test results were released December 6. The Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a worldwide study by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in member and non-member nations of 15-year-old school pupils’ scholastic performance on mathematics, science, and reading.

Based on new international norms, Orono students performed best in the world. Singapore came out as the top country followed by Japan and Estonia. The United States was listed in 25th place. The average score of Orono students who took the latest test was higher than Singapore’s average score as were the percentage of Orono students who ranked in the top levels of the test.
