calendar-awardThe district’s 2016-17 school calendar earned a Gold Award in the 2016 MarCom Awards, an international creative competition that recognizes outstanding achievement by marketing and communication professionals.

This year’s calendar – “Speaking of Success” – features proverbs and quotations reflecting the  goals and values defined in the district’s Strategic Plan.

This year the competition received about 6,500 entries from throughout the United States, Canada and 17 other countries. The competition has grown to perhaps the largest of its kind the world. A look at the winners shows a range in size from individual communicators to media conglomerates and Fortune 500 countries. The competition is so well respected in the industry that national public relations organizations, local ad clubs and local business communicator chapters are entrants.

The Gold Award is presented to those entries judged to exceed the high standards of the industry norm. Among the Gold Award winners were just three public school districts: Orono (enrollment of 2,800 students), Mesquite Independent School District in Mesquite, TX (enrollment of 40,840) and United Independent School District in Laredo, TX (enrollment of 43,000 students).

MarCom Awards is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP).  The international organization consists of several thousand creative professionals. AMCP oversees awards and recognition programs, provides judges and sets standards for excellence.
