The Orono High School Speech Team has been recognized nationally by the National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA).
The team received at least 100 degrees last school year, placing it in the top 23 percent of chapters nationwide and securing it membership in the league’s prestigious 100 Club. NSDA has 120,000 members nationwide.
“This milestone is remarkable because it demonstrates outstanding commitment to teaching students essential life skills, including communication, research, listening, writing and organization,” wrote J. Scott Wunn, NSDA executive director, in his letter of congratulations.
Students earn points and degrees based on competitive and service-related activities. OHS team members earned enough tournament points to advance members several degrees.
