Lunch menus go “digital” with NutriSlice

Post 12 of 17

nutrisliceThis year, school lunch menus are going digital. NutriSlice is a new program that will make menus more interactive to increase students’ understanding of meal options. This feature is available online at orono.nutrislice.com or by clicking the “Lunch Menus” tab at the top of the district homepage.

For those with a smart phone or tablet, a free app is also available to download from the Apple or Android app stores.

Some of the features of the new program include:

  • Images of food items – Great for early learners
  • Nutritional information, meal components, allergens and ingredient lists – Never question meals again
  • Carbohydrate counts – Ideal for students with diabetes
  • 5-Star Review system – Lets students let the district know what they like the best
  • 11 language options – World language teachers can post the menu in their classes (Spanish, German, Chinese) and for English Language Learners and their families
  • Direct link to FeePay – Easy access to payment options
  • Direct link to Application for Educational Benefits – Hard copies will still be available in each school office

As the district transitions to the new program, the goal is to decrease the number of printed menus in the future. October will be the last month that the district will send out hard copies. The back side of next month’s menu will include instructions on how to use NutriSlice.
